Onthe contrary, from my acquaintance with some of them, I regard them as among ourmost devoted and self-denying laborers in the cause of God.

Being already crushed into contrition by the convicting power of the law, the revelation of the love of God manifested in the death of Christ will naturally beget great self-loathing, and that godly sorrow that needeth not to be repented of. Is this a hard saying? One cannot intelligently and heartily ask or accept a pardon until he sees and feels the fact and justice of his condemnation. The only negative negative comment I would make is that at times Finney sounds like he believes in perfectionism, that is, it is possible to live a life without sin. It is easy to find fault in any Christian author if we look hard enough. I mournto be obliged to say that the ranks of the ministry seem to be filling up with thosewho do not possess it. Power From On High Charles G. Knowing the historical context of Finney's preaching goes a long way in understanding his theology. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent Me. Nobody seemedoffended, but almost everybody greatly melted.
