Gameplay can be choppy online. The fact is, the graphics play into every facet of the game, including how the game plays. These stat boosts are tied into point totals you earn during drills. When there's 50 people in a lobby online, you can't even type a message or view user's stats. Every position has at least a couple of these different designations, though not every player is truly a weapon.
But the bulk of the matches we played weren't very laggy at all. The game offers an exciting gameplay based on football, and it is the fourteenth marvelous entry in the series of Pro Evolution Soccer game. Of course, the development team graces us with little bells and whistles. The system itself works beautifully within the context of the game. Ball is intercepted too often by guys in single coverage but when opponent throws into a receiver who is double triple quadrulple covered it seems to bounce around and into the receivers hands too often. The new weapons system of characterizing various players' abilities adds a whole new dimension to the game. The only redeeming quality is it is football barely.

If a player turns out to be greater than his draft position would initially suggest, he'll get a gem icon and actually perform above his stats. In addition, the game also added jukes to the right analog stick, further refining the Truck Stick that was added in the 2006 game by making it easier to use and adding more animations to its repertoire of moves. Maybe that will strike some kind of balance. That's exactly how Madden plays out! Between the new weapons feature and all the various control adjustments to this year's game, Madden 08 provides an extremely deep and challenging experience on the field, possibly even a bit too challenging, depending on your tastes.

The major gameplay change is a new read-and-react system. You can go head-to-head against only one other player in ranked and unranked matches. The franchise mode has been completely dismantled, and every screen loads terribly slow. That's exactly how Madden plays out! Once again, a very glitchy game and they seem to occur at the worst time if you're big on using audibles. The game puts the player in the realistic experience of fast-paced, and 5-on-5 football gameplay and brings the 10 awesome players from each thirty defense and offense together. These new weapon designations even go beyond basic techniques--they can actually give you insight into what the other team is doing. It features the usual roster updates and control changes and adds several new features.

The biggest and best differences are to be found in the franchise mode, which, while still not as rich with features as previous installments on older consoles, still has a fair amount to offer. Heck, even the Super Bowl feels low-rent. I will probably be playing the game with it off. They keep saying that the gameplay is tight. If you play Defense all blockers will try to block you and forget about the guy in their face.

The excellent new weapons feature isn't the only way the on-field action has changed. This is a real problem that needs to be addressed in Madden '09. Interceptions I don't have such a problem with as I think if you throw it into tight coverage that it will be picked off and should be.
