My own ghazal sensibility is rooted in the spiritual quest of the soul, which anguishes over the suffering of the world and it cannot remain content in its mere individual condition.
Feel free to add your own Faiz Ahmad Faiz Shayari. This blog is a reflective journey of that and sometimes a diary of the lyrics I work with. I was reading the biographies diaries of Che Guevara past week, and I guess Che would have liked reading Faiz, if he could. To me 'ghazal' is a confluence of great poetry and music. I still liked translating it, though. Anyway, here is one poem on a more traditional Urdu poetry theme.
Kab thehre ga dard aye dil kab raat bassar hogi, Suntay thay woh aayen ge suntay thay sehar hogi, Kab jaan lahuu hogi kab ashk guhar hoga, Kis din teri shunvaayi ae deedaa-e-tar hogi, Kab mehke gi fassl-e-gull kab behke ga maii-khaana, Kab subhh-e-sukhann hogi kab shaamm-e-nazzar hogi, Waayez hai na zahid hai naseh hai na qaatil hai, Ab shehr main yaron ki kis tarah bassar hogi, Kab tak abhi raah dekhen ae qaamat-e-jaanana, Kab hashar muyayyan hai tujh ko to khabar hogi. The title of this blog, taken from Faiz, is a pointer of that- from the suffering due to the beloved to the suffering of the world. And I was not sure how useful a Devanagari script version one would be for it, so did not try that either. . . . .
